How much prep is needed before staining a year-old floor of pressure treated pine boards on a covered, screened porch? Built this a year ago. Lazy butt, just getting around to staining it now with an oil based semi transparent stain. Since boards have only been exposed to incidental rain and minimal sun, (fully covered and partially shaded anyway, with half wall on one side and quarter walls on the other two sides) I dont know if they need the full Restore a Deck cleaning and lightening first.. I washed floor thoroughly with all purpose cleaner and gently scrubbed spots. Is that enough? It removed the surface dirt fine. There is some ground in dirt, but the darker color doesn’t bother me. Actually have washed it twice now since weather changes kept delaying the staining. Getting sick of washing it but if restore a deck first is really needed for a good appearance or longevity, I’ll bite the bullet and do it. (Yeah I’m lazy, but kind of old, so maybe cut me some slack...!)
