I have a large deck that I have just finished cleaning with Restore A Deck. Leaves are now falling on my deck and unless there is a good reason not to, I plan to wait until spring to stain my deck. Is there any downside to this? I know I will need to reclean and then brighten in the spring, but aside from an additional clean is there any downside to waiting to stain?

Unless you live in a location with 6+ months of winter, waiting untill spring should be alright. Recleaning/brightening in the spring will be helpful, but the most overlooked step in deck prep is removing the mill glaze. I believe that most of the negative reviews for stains are direct results of skipping that step. Mill-Glaze (planer crush) is
created when lumber is planed
to achieve a flat, smooth
surface. The shiny glaze left on
the surface will keep coatings
from penetrating, which leads
to coating failure. It must be
removed.
