Hello. I have a cedar deck that was stained about a year ago with a semi-transparent product. I’m not sure what product they used, as it was done by someone that my builder hired. It is in pretty rough shape now, except for the vertical surfaces. I tried cleaning a small area with a sodium percarbonate based cleaner, but it didn’t seem to get all the mildew off and left areas looking fuzzy. What is my best option moving forward? I’d like to clean and re-stain, but will I have to sand? It’s a pretty large area, so I’d like to avoid sanding if possible. Thanks.

Strip and brighten all with the Restore A Deck Kits and both additives: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/restore-a-deck-stain-stripper-booster-thickening-gel-review/

You may have to lightly sand after but hard to say if needed or not until you remove the current coating with the Stripper.

I have stripped the deck. Now, while I'm waiting for stain to arrive (3 days) should I still use a wood brightener? If so, how long do I need to wait to stain after wood brightener?Thank you!

The stripper does need to be neutralized with the brighener. As for how long to wait after, that depends on the stain brand you are using and what they suggest.

Input needed, have a pressure treated older deck, no idea what previous owner used, has some semi-transparent stain remaining on railing & shaded areas, was hoping to use Armstrong Clark semi transparent to stain, will a stripper get this old stain off?  Have about 2,000 sq ft so really don’t want to sand!  Any & all input appreciated

Probably most but maybe not all. You would use the RAD stripper with both additives and then brighten the wood:

Were you going the use a gray color again?

TWP or AC would work well but you may not be able to fully strip off the gray so you might need to sand some to get it all off.
