greetings from nashville - need to re-stain 20 yr old pressure-tx wood 2nd story screened porch, stairs, railings, really high posts, gable (south-facing)... don't have much trouble w mold, mildew. used cabot alkyd semi solid last time (10 yrs ago). need quality brand that can be color matched to paint trim on house (beach lt brown/grey family), so some products (e.g., TWP, armstrong/clark) do not seem options (and not avail locally). cabot, ben moore, porter/PPG available locally, and can color match. also considering ease of doing and re-doing subsequent times. Plan to clean w sodium percarbonate (mild bleach only as needed in small areas), power washer lightly to rinse, fully dry, re-stain.
Ques: 1) which brand better (had seen cabot today may not be as good as before?) 2) which may best reach goal of ease now and later; 3) prep/stain plan sound ok? THANKS MUCH for insights ~
1. Hard to suggestion a brand when you are limiting yourself so much. I guess between the three I would personally use the Cabot.
2. None will really offer ease of use in the future. Definitely not Benjamin Moore.
3. Better to use a deck cleaner that contains sodium percarbonate. Straight sodium percarbonate will not clean exterior wood as well as say Restore-A-Deck, which is a blend with additional surfactants to aid in cleaning wood. You must use a wood brightener to neutralize the sodium percarbonate.
Might want to look at Flood's semi-solid that can be colored match:
You can order any stain from thesealerstore.com and shipping is very reasonably priced. I order A/C on a regular basis and have sames if you would like.
