I finally finished stripping and sanding my 700 square foot plus deck and thought I was ready to choose a Stain. After reading this forum, I was going to go with TWP 1500 because of the simple reapplication process for future coats. Although my first choice was a Flood brand UV5 Oil semi-transparent tinted (Chambray)stain. But I called Flood customer service and they said I would have to strip my deck before each future reapplication. Anyone know why TWP has a simple reapplication prep and Flood does not? I don't see the difference.
The better a stain penetrates into the wood the less chance of peeling or wearing. This allows for easier clean and reapplication with the need for stripping. Sometimes you will need to strip TWP due to an improper application or too many coats through the years. Stripping is not really a big deal and is not harder then cleaning for the prep when dealing with a stain like TWP.
We actually strip every deck that we restore as it is easier in our opinion.
