Hi! So we have a huge wrap around covered deck and a large uncovered deck . Kinda Brief details
1. Previous owner stained with Behr semi red (so ugly). we restained the back deck when we moved in,as it was peeling 3 years ago when we moved in. So of course it was peeling a couple months after we did that. Everything was scuffed and peeling. Finally I got my husband to agree to stripping and fixing the deck this year. Yeah!
2. Last week, we got the Woodrich HD-80 and did a test. It performed well, so we got more and I started stripping the deck. Stuff works amazing! Got all the floors stripped on the covered deck.
3. We are replacing a few handrails, bottom boards that are damage, bowed. we are replacing a few deck boards on the uncovered deck since they were damaged beyond use.
4. We are FLIPPING the boards on the uncovered back deck.
5. The spindles are black and really there is no problem with the paint on there,, other than what i scuffed up or took off with the pressure washer.
6. The Posts and inbetween the spindles (the 2x4 top and bottom rails, not the hand rails) I am sanding, why you ask? because trying to put stripper on a back deck that is about 20 feet up and having it blow back on your face is not pleasant and really does not work well. I am sanding with a palm sander in between the spindles with 80 grit. Not taking it all off, but a lot.
My plan
1. finishing sanding everything, including posts (some i can use the stripper on) finishing flipping boards, strip those boards. and let the back deck sit till September to weather those new boards and the newly flipped boards. Then if the deck needs sanded (have some furs on wood from pressure washing,) I will sand it. Then clean and brighten with woodrich, stain with Armstrong semi (havent done test yets on colors, but I think I want the armstrong stain) Our back deck gets full sun and we rather had a stain fade and do maintenance coats. We want to stain the covered decks after we complete all our prep work and dry and clean etc etc.
2. the handrails we want to stain, the spindles give them a new coat of black and same for the top and bottom rails (which are sanded or stripped for the most part).
My question on that is, can we just get the flood stain, scuff up the spindles and apply? or should i find an actual paint? I have no idea what previous owner used to paint the spindles with.
any suggestions, tips or advice is appreciated.
I have attached several photos of my deck and results of using the stripper.
sorry I dont know how to delete the double photos. ; (
I think it would be best to use a paint for the black spindles so it adheres well. Not a solid color deck stain.
Thank you. any idea on what brand of paint for them?

It does not matter for the spindles what brand to use.
