I have a 15 year old cedar deck that I need to refinish. The wook is in pretty good condition for its age but there are some cracks and the color is spotty in some areas. I had used TWP for the last 4 refinishings. I am looking for a product that will even out the color; covering the light and darker areas. I just finished cleaning the deck with a deck cleaner and powerwasher. I live in Michigan and the deck get full sun light. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have you tried a stain stripper to remove the old TWP and even out the color prior to staining? That would be best prior to applying another coat of stain.

I know that this website and forum is primarly for decks however I am looking for a good semi-transparent stain for my cedar sided house and my treated wood deck that will look good and protect well against the elements. I live in Juneau, Alaska (Tongass national rainforest)and the conditions are very harsh in terms of moisture and climate variances.

I am not sure what you will be able to get in Alaska but if possible I would use TWP stains. If you cannot get them, let us know what is available in your area and would would be able to offer a suggestion.

Here is the list of stains that are available in this area:
Benjamin Moore Arbor Coat
Perserva wood
Flood-one coat
Behr premium
Thompson water seal
Wood armor
Penofin ultra premium
Cabot Australian timber oil
Please let me know which one of these would be the best stain for both the deck and cedar siding.
Thank you
Shane

Just found out that the local paint store sell a product called "Pittsburgh paints - Sunproof".
Any knowledge of this product (good, bad, ugly)

We have not rated the Sunproof but have used it. It is an average stain in our opinion. We thought it had some drying issues. Sticky and tacky.

Thanks for your help, I ordered TWP 100 series online since all the locally supplied brands seem to be either way to expensive or garbage.

HELP! I have cedar vertical board that's been pressure washed. House built 1974. I'm thinking of a semil solid acrylic stain, can't use oil base. What brand do you recommend? My local expert says BM Arborcoat, but I don't like what I'm reading about that product.

Thanks
Eva

Why can't you use an oil based stain? You are severely limitting yourself.

I can't afford to have the whole house stripped to the bare wood before applying an oil base stain. What is your opinion of Flood semi solid or Cabot. Do you think they are better than BM Arborcoat? Flood's is half alkyd
Really appreciate this site. Thank you
