Hi All,

I sanded my entire deck and rinsed my deck in October, let it dry, applied 1 thick coat of Sherwin Williams Pine Cone and only 8 months later I'm getting peeling all over.  What am I doing wrong i wonder?  Applying in normal temps, only 1 coat.  Located in South Ohio, West facing deck, direct sun for < 4hrs

I'm guessing I'm not prepping it right?

Thanks for any help.

Jeff

Hi All,  You can see my deck solid stain peeling pic in this thread.  Here is what I am asking the contractor to do.  The contractor would like to sand and go right to staining with Behr and as you can see that isn't working for me.  I want to do it right.

Can someone verify I have the steps correct?

1 - sand off old solid stain with no more than 80 grit sandpaper

2 - Clean the deck with a cleaner like Restore a Deck Cleaner, use a pressure washer.

3 - Brighten the deck right after with Restore a Deck Brightener

4 - Stain.  If using Restore a Deck Stain, can apply damp same day.  If using TWP100, need to wait 48 hrs until deck is dry to apply.

Will that scope of work give me the best results?

Thanks in advance!
