After applying this product on untreated clear cedar deck boards, we discovered that the wood fibers are fuzzed up and lifted. We applied the cleaner as directed, waited 15 minutes while keeping it moist, then scrubbed with a floor brush to get the gray sludge off. Then we rinsed thoroughly, applied the brighter, waited 15 minutes and rinsed thoroughly again.. After drying overnight, we looked at the deck and observed that the wood fibers are fuzzed. What caused this and what should we do now?
A neighbor suggested that we just use household bleach and water mixed 50/50. We tried that on a test board. It seemed to work quite well with no scrubbing at all. Just sprayed on and rinsed off.
This deck was installed in the last 12 months. It is raw wood, never treated. We waited for the milled surface to weather before starting to prepare the deck for Armstrong Clark Wood Stain (Amber).
