Hi All,

I built a home two years ago and the cedar decks are a large part of the investment. The decks now need restaining, and I am getting bids. The decks were originally sealed with Penofin Marine Oil. Either this was not the best product, or it was not stained correctly. I am getting various bids from different entities, and everyone is telling me different things. Many have said that the product used, or the way that it was applied was not done correctly and the decks should not look like this only two years in. Does the rest of this stain need to be FULLY removed for a new stain to be adhered? Does it have to be an oil-based (bc the previous product was an oil) or can it be a water-based? I have received bids with recommendations of Behr, Sherwin Williams, and Readyseal. Another bidder said that the stain should absolutely not be applied mid-day in the Texas heat because the stain will bubble and ruin. If you have any thoughts on the best product to use for this cedar deck, I would greatly appreciate it. I want to use the best product out there for wear and tear, and don't want to have to go through all of this again in another two years. PHOTOS BELOW. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!

Try 1-2 pictures at a time. Your files sizes may be too large.
