Hi All -
I did the deck and railings (with WAY too many vertical slates) with Cabot Austrailain Timber Oil voc19400 three years ago. I did a complete stripping/cleaning/sanding/power washing on everything. The railings still look fairly good, but the deck itself really needs re-staining due to hot sun, snow and exposure here in Connecticut.
I intend to use the same Cabot product and color (Mahogany Flame) over the existing stain.
I'm having trouble getting info on how much prep work I'll need to do in this case.
My questions are:
1) The railing tain is fair, but could use a fresh stain. What level of prep must I do to restain the railings? I'm hoping that I won't need to strip and sand it all down again.
2) I'll clean, power wash, and sand the rough spots onthe faded deck. I'll apply the same color and product on the deck.
My hope here is that I won't have to do full prep for this reapplication of the Cabots.
Any detailed help from anyone out there would be appreciated!
Clean and brighten the wood if using the same stain and color.
