Hi,

Oakdale, Central Valley, California

Full Sun, hot, hot, hot

I reclaimed my old redwood fence boards, (planed to silky smoothness) and made a shed/playhouse.  The boards are joined via ship lap and glue.

Mostly the wood is clear redwood with some lighter/white sapwood (see attachments). I don't want to see this shed turn grey/dark from sun and exposure, what type of sealer/waterproofer should I use to protect and accentuate the wood? I spent forever at Home Depot reading labels and am confused as to what is optimal. I don't think a semi transparent or solid is appropriate as I don't want to hide the grain and color differences.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Thank you,

George

You must have a stain if you want to protect from UV graying so a semi-transparent is best and will not hide the wood grain. Look at one of these brands:

Lighter colors like "Natural" will probably be what you want.
