Hi,
I'm going to be re-staining my deck (after cleaning and brightening with RAD) and was wondering how handle the portion that doesn't get as much sun exposure as the rest of the deck. The deck is approximately 30' x 24' with about a 30' x 10' section covered under an over hang. The area under the overhang is in good shape, while the exposed areas are obviously much more weathered. Is there anyway to try and get these areas to match even though they've weathered differently? Should I do two 'wet' coats in the exposed areas and maybe one in the area undercover? I just want to make sure that the stain doesn't build up too much in the areas undercover while at the same time trying to get everything to match.
On a side note, is it always necessary to re-stain everything? Spindles, handrails, lattice? The spindles appear to have weathered ok but the handrails look like they need help. Again, the whole point is to make sure everything looks 'even'.
I've attached a couple of photos showing an area exposed and another showing the area partially under cover.
I'll be using the same stain as before (Armstrong Clark Semi-transparent Rustic Brown).
Thanks for your advice!
You will have to strip and brighten to make it look even. No other way and easy to do. You could just do the floors and skip the railings.
