I have a PT deck in need of a serious refurbishing. Location: Wisconsin, minimal sun, but lots of traffic and harsh winter issues. I’ve read much of the advice on your site and am greatly appreciative. I have a question about non-drying oil based stains. After repairs, cleaning, brightening and sanding, would it make sense to treat the wood with a non-drying oil stain (or plain non-drying oil) to restore the wood, like one might do with a cutting board, followed by a drying oil based stain or sealer to finish the deck? And if so, what product would you recommend.

I am sorry we did not reply. Missed your message!

It would be best to use a stain that already contains non-drying oils in it instead of doing two applications. Less chance of mold too.

Here are some stains that contain non-drying oils:

Armstrong Clark
TWP 200
Timber Oil Brand
Ready Seal
