Deck Stain Questions and Answers

I recently installed a new Redwood deck. I want to stain and seal it as soon as it is recommended to do so. I see in many answers listed on the forum it is advised that you wait 1 to 12 months prior to the first stain. I am concerned that my dog will pee and soil the deck prior to sealing it. What is everyones opinion?
