I live in the Chicago area and I just had an awesome white cedar fence installed. I wanted to seal it before it losses it's beautiful color and turns white/grey. I would like to use a clear product so that there is no color added to the wood. After reading some customer reviews on products available at the stores, people say that the clear turns the wood yellow. I don't want a yellow fence. Please advise on timing of application and what product I can use to achieve the results I desire.

Clear as in no color will not change the appearance. It also will not offer protection from graying. You will need a tinted stain to prevent UV graying.

That's kind of lame. You would think with all the technology we have these days that there would be a " varnish" that you could use to lock in the natural beauty if the wood. The grey look is terrible.

It is currently an impossibility. Think eye glasses. Clear glasses do not stop UV, you need tinted. Similar with decking stains.
