Hi -

I live in Washington State
My deck gets shade, sun and of course moisture
Built a new cedar deck last summer
Cleaned and brightened it with Flood product, and then applied Flood CWF UV5 Oil.
It was very tacky in some areas and actually took a long time to dry, and just had some areas that didn't seem to soak in the stain at all. I'm wondering if it wasn't dry enough when applied?
Granted I did not apply it and I don't think the person I paid did a very good job.
But, after 1 year it is black - it's like the stain turned black?

Any advice on what I should do this year?

Thank you very much!!!

Most likely this turned dark from dirt and grime sticking to the stain that never had a chance to cure properly. We just wrote an article on this: Deck Turned Black

At this point you have little choice but to remove it and start over. I would suggest the RAD Stain Stripper followed by the wood brightener. Once done I would look for TWP or Armstrong Clark

If you get a chance, post some before and after pictures. You can do this by clicking the "Reply" tab.
