Hello,

I have a new deck (premium PTP, elevated, eastern exposure, Ohio), completed in late February 2017. I'm getting estimates for the first staining so I can budget; we're still several months away from being ready to stain. One vendor recommended using a clear sealant on the wood now to protect it, then staining the deck next spring. Does this make any sense? I'm leaning toward leaving the wood bare and staining in the fall (after the brutal hot and humid weather is gone), but I'd like an expert opinion from someone who isn't trying to sell me something.

Thanks,

~CDV

No need to clear seal it. Just stain in the Summer or Fall.
