Hello, I am in Manitoba and we see a drastic weather changes....very hot in summer to very cold in winter. My deck is pressure treated green spruce, direct sunlight from noon on. The deck has never been painted or treated, it is approx. 8 years old. Please advise which product would be best and the best prep? Thank you.

Jan, please forgive me for piggybacking on your question but my situation is similar.

We live in Alberta so have the same climatic characteristics. I am looking at Armstrong Clark products for an older cedar deck. I have stripped off the previous solid stain which was more like paint than stain, cleaned and brightened and am now ready to apply a new stain. Can someone explain the differences, pros and cons between semi solid and semi transparent stain. Is it simply a matter of degree : a little more pigment, a little more protection, a little better wear, a little less visible grain..Thanks.

I am assuming then that oil based Armstrong clarke vs water based Defy is preferred given the climate?

Yes that would be correct as it will penetrate better than the Defy.
