I have a good game plan for cleaning, brightening and then will use a quality Armstrong Clark semi transparent stain. Deck was built April last year so has seasoned and is pine. So my main question is whether anyone knows any tips and tricks for getting around the metal ballast and what solvents or cleaners may hurt? I obviously won't get stain on them (going to have to do around each one by hand) but would a Defy wood cleaner and brightener step hurt if I got over spray on these metal ballasts? I have power washer, spray pump, etc. so just trying to figure out a way to cut down some time on the cleaning and brightening steps without have to baby these metal ballast. But if one thinks it will corrode or discolor them then I would want to know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Brad

We have never had an issue with prepping products harming metal spindles. The spindles have a smooth coating on them, just rinse with water well when done to remove any soap residue and wood fibers. With the AC stain, have a rag handy to wipe off any stain that gets on the spindles. Saturate any oil rags in water when done and lay flat to dry outside.
