@administrator thanks again. Okay, just to confirm. Should I use the RAD Stain Stripper/Brightener kit and do both processes, or just the brightener? And then when I wash off the prep materials prior to staining, should I use a pressure washer or just a garden hose? On new wood am I likely to get "wood fuzzies?" And I'm assuming I shouldn't need to do any sanding? Thanks again!
Clean and brighten lightly. No need for the stripper. Pressure wash rinse is the easiest way. You only get fuzzies if removing heavy gray oxidation.
Good day, I live in Texas. Full sun all day and wood deck extends from back of house around above ground pool so one portion gets wet frequently from splashing. It gets very slippery and I'm worried someone is going to get hurt. Is there anything I can add to staining application for texture/grip?

Our deck is in Wisconsin. The portion with the wire railing is 1 1/2 years old and has never been stained. The other portion is almost 10 years old and was previously stained with a Sherwin Williams semi-transparent stain (that peeled badly after a year) and then a Sherwin Wilkins semi-solid stain to try to cover up the problem (bad idea). We just stripped and sanded the older deck (using 60 grit paper). Our yard is heavily shaded with the new deck receiving almost no sun and the old deck receiving a little morning sun. The old deck has had a problem with both peeling and mildew. Both decks are made of pressure treated lumber. We are wondering what stain would be best for our deck?
Also, we are intrigued by the idea of adding a bug repellent to the stain. Do these work? Can they be added to both an oil-based and water-based stain?
Thanks,
Patty
Use one of our top-rated penetrating stains. No more peeling and easily cleaned and reapplied. TWP or Restore A Deck Stains: https://www.deckstainhelp.com/the-5-best-deck-stain-reviews-and-ratings/
My parents (Mississippi) put some opaque paint-like stain on their covered back porch a few years ago. My mom pressure washed it recently and some of the paint came off, so now she wants to have the same type of stuff reapplied. She thinks it's really her fault for pressure washing it; I say it's a failure of the product. Which is right?
(The products being considered here are SuperDeck and a Valspar solid stain, but I don't know exactly what she used before.)
What's more, she also wants to have a full-sun deck redone (mine) with the same stuff. We settled on a transparent stain instead back then, but now we're back to square one because she's convinced the opaque stuff will last. (Original thread: https://forum.deckstainhelp.com/postid/10942/ )
The deck (and porch, I think) are treated pine. I've noticed a mildewy smell on the deck in the last couple of years, which seems odd because it gets so much sun (it is a very humid area, but the smell is relatively new). The porch mostly smells like cigarettes.
I live on Buckeye Lake in OHIO I was going to stain a ceiling that we have used pressure treated deck boards on with a wiping stain and then use 3 coats of outdoor urethane on it. It will not get sun, rain, or UV Rays. Would this work? With me being 65, I only want to do this once.
No, it will peel. Do not use interior stains or a ploy on exterior wood. Use a penetrating wood or deck stain.

That is oxidation that did not come off. Redo prep using the RAD Cleaner and then the Brightener after.
Hi,
I live in PA and followed all of your recommended steps to clean and prep my 950 sq. ft. deck. 2 days after prep, I applied 2 coats of Flood Pro Series Solid Stain, being careful to apply in the shade as much as possible. It was a beautiful, sunny day with no rain in the forecast. I was very pleased with how the deck looked, but less than 1 hour after I finished, a spot thunderstorm dumped a lot of rain on my newly stained deck. The next day I was pleasantly surprised to see that (visually at least) the deck still looked great. Do you think I need to wait a few days and apply another coat for additional protection? Another point I’d like to make is that the coverage was far better than expected. I bought 7 cans and only used 3.
