I am undertaking refinishing my 20 year old 20X30 deck. The deck was black with dirt and mildew. I've started with powerwashing at 1500 psi with a wide angle tip with an oxygen bleach and citrus cleaning solution. The deck looks pretty good at this point except there is an area where I replaced a couple boards so there are two new pressure treated planks and it has some burn marks where someone had a fire pit on the deck (which is why I had to replace two plank because of a hole where the fire pit burned through).

So I am wondering two things- is there any product that may lighten up the burn marks ie a brighter? Will a semi transparnet stain in a dark color be enough to cover the burn marks and the new planks to blend together with the rest of the wood? Or will it be necessary to use a semi sold or solid which I don't prefer but that may be necessary.

Also I'm interested in green safe non toxic low VOC products. I have kids and dogs and plants.

Thanks for all the great info and advice on this site. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Catherine

No you cannot lighten up burn marks. Hard to blend as well. Darker colors will be better then lighter colors to blend this. More pigment helps as well. Maybe Butternut in the Defy Extreme Stain.
