I am a first-time home owner who is trying to get the deck stained. The deck has original stain or some coat that looks semi-transparent or transparent- which I am trying to remove. I plan to use Behr all weather waterproofing and sealing semi-transparent stain. To prep surface, this is what I have done so far.

  • Since I was not sure if the deck had any prior stain or some some sort of sealer- I used Behr Premium All in one wood cleaner No. 63 on half of the deck. After a lot of scrubbing and hosing-down I did not think, everything came off.
  • So, I used the same product on rest of the deck but this time I used pressure washer and felt that most of the old stain came off. So I went back to the first half and used pressure wash there as well.
  • The railings I have not been able to pressure wash well and the main wrap around planks that go on top of the railing- have pressure wash marks all over.
  • The vertical railings have been hard to pressure wash

Need advice as to how I have been doing. What to do with those marks left behind by pressure washer- whether semi-transparent stain will hide them. Do I need some more scrubbing, Any other chemicals to do a better job? I am trying to avoid further use of pressure washer.

Appreciate the help.
