I applied Cabbot SPF to a 800 sf deck and railings about four years ago at my second home in southwest NC. After having bonding issues after the first year I prepped the failed areas and recoated about two years ago. This year I found more bonding issues and checked reviews for the product on the internet. Of course many other people had problems with the Cabbot SPF and I found out it had been taken off the market.
I contacted Cabbot, emailed pictures and was told by a customer service rep that they would reimburse me for stripper and stain that I would need to recoat my deck.
Great! I asked the CSR to email me a confirmation of the offer and guess what, never got it. I called Cabbot back and asked for the csr, who wasn't available, and left a message. No call back! Emailed him and no response.
Welcome to corporate America, huh.
So I did some research and found that Flood solid stain was my best bet.
Bought it a Walmart, it was relatively inexpensive, went on easy, covered well and looked good. I should mention that I tried a couple strippers and they would not remove the Cabbot SPF so I sanded the entire deck before application. Now I guess I wait and see.
