Sanding actually reduces the ability for the stain to soak in. Only sand if absolutely needed.

Those brands should work. Best to look at their color charts and possibly get some samples to test.

I would check with Pittsburgh on this one as we do not use their products in our restoration jobs. It should be on their label as to what prep is need...

Since it is rough sawn cut, just make sure the wood is clean and dry and you will be able to stain.
