Hello,

In about 2 weeks from now I plan on stripping, brightening, and staining my backyard deck. Last year I hired someone to stain the deck, and what he used washed a way in a lot of spots and I am looking to start fresh. I have sought a some advice from this site, and I plan on using Restore a Deck Stripper and Brightener, and using Armstrong Clark deck stain.

I want to sand the deck after I strip and brighten the deck. My question involves sanding the deck. I am thinking of using a orbital hand sander and I also heard that it is best to use a sandpaper of around 60 to 80 grit. Is this correct, and do you have any other advice as when it comes to sanding my deck and getting it ready for a new stain job? Thanks in advance.

I would not use more then 60 grit paper. I would also lightly clean the deck after to remove the sand dust. This will help the stain absorb better.
