Hi,

Firstly just wanted to say how great this forum is and appreciate all the advice provided!

I recently moved into a new place and the previous owners had used a solid white stain on a brand new cedar deck which is now about 5-7 years old. It was a Behr stain which was peeling so my plan was to power sand it all off and apply a transparent or semi-transparent stain which would show the grain a bit more.

My issue is after power sanding there’s still solid white stain where the screws were counter sunk and also between the deck boards. I think I can get between the deck boards with a multi-tool or dremel but what would be the best way to tackle this? Is trying a stain remover worth trying for these small spots where the screw holes are? The deck is about 500sq.ft.

Thanks in advance!

You could try a stripper and see if that works. Make sure to brighten all after.
