I have a large deck with Trex horizontal surfaces (floor and bench stretching the length of the back) with wood (probably PT pine) railings and posts. The railings consist of 1 x 6 perpendicular to the bench, 1 x 6 perpendicular to the Trex top caps on the sides, and 2 x 2 balusters. Posts are 4 x 4, they are visible above the deck surface where they support the bench.

I cleaned the Trex this spring and its in good shape. The wood railings and posts are another story - the stain is fading fast and cracks are beginning to form.

I live in north Florida, hot humid summers, lots of rain in the spring and summer, no snow but it can get in the 20's in the winter. The deck faces west and receives a lot of sunshine in the afternoon.

What do you recommend for restaining the wood members? Is paint a viable alternative? How about solid stain?

Thanks in advance.

You can use a solid stain for this. Prep first with a deck cleaner and stain with Flood solid stains.
