I re-stained my redwood deck about a month ago with TWP 1500 after stripping the old stain after one year due to mold issues. I hired my son to do it for me and he did a good job and it looks good. I still have some leftover stain and was wondering if it was too late to apply a second coat since I read here that second coats should be applied "wet on wet". Is it too late? I used a semi transparent California redwood tint.

Thanks

Yes you cannot apply now but you can apply a light coat after a light cleaning 6-12 months later.

In May of 2014 we installed a new cedar deck and stained it in October of 2014 with TWP 1500 series stain. We live in NY State, no mold or mildew issues and the deck gets Southwest exposure. We now see that the stain has really faded. Can we restain with a different stain that won't fade and do we have to strip it. What would be the best stain for a deck that gets this exposure

It is normal that you have to redo every 2 years and other semi-transparent brands will not last any longer. They all fade.

Clean and brighten and stay with the TWP 1500. If you want to switch, you will need to strip and brighten for the prep. Using a semi-solid may give you slightly better UV protection from fading. The Armstrong Clark has a good penetrating semi-solid that is not prone to peeling like other semi-solids
