Too late (cold weather) to stain. What to do?

Newbie here and new home owner.  Sorry if I'm asking a question that's already been asked. 

Previous owner painted the deck and paint is peeling etc.  At least a third of the paint is gone.  Wood appears to be untreated.  Wanted to stain, but life got ahead of me and now it's too late.  Only have a few days left where temps will be above 50 degrees and that's only for a few hours.

What's the best course of action for the winter?  Slap on a cheap paint?  Cover with tarp? Just leave it and deal with the consequences in the spring? Other?
