Hello!  We have had our decking replaced on our covered front porch, as well as the steps.  The contractor used fir on the porch and pine on the steps.  It has been a year and I've done the water test, it seems ready to stain.

I worry if I use semi transparent, the fir and pine may not match so leaning toward semi solid.  Also unsure whether to use oil or water based.  I have years of experience painting, but this is the first time to stain new wood.

I appreciate your advice!  Thank you, Shelia

A quality semi-transparent will show all the wood grain and not mask it. Try TWP or Armstrong Clark stains.\ https://www.deckstainhelp.com/the-5-best-deck-stain-reviews-and-ratings/
