We have a 28 year old tongue and groove redwood deck that we have stripped and then restored with oxalic acid. It looks great, but we may sand to even out surface and smooth.

We live near Atlanta, so we have hot summers, lots of rain, occasional snow or freezing rain. Northeast facing deck gets half a day of strong middle of the day sun in summer, shaded in morning and later afternoon.

Over the years, we have used things from Thompson's to semi-transparent stains. We just stripped from a poor experience with a semi-transparent that was more opaque than transparent and weathered off in areas and flaked unevenly in others.

I really like the natural look without additional color. It is obvious that the TWP products are the favorite here (I am assuming that there is no commercial connection!), but they only seem to come in colors, and I am concerned that any of them would distort the natural redwood color and have flaking problems. Would any of the colors give a final result that is close to unnoticeable as not natural? Would there be a better product for clear protection?

If TWP, which would be better, 100 or 1500?

Thanks.

Clears will not give UV protection. You must have a color or stain. In addition lighter tints will fail faster then darker tints. You could try the TWP 115 Honeytone for a lighter color or the Armstrong Clark in the Amber.
