Re-staining cedar sidng

I have to re-stain cedar siding what was stained with ZAR Rain Stain (semi-transparent) about 15 years ago.

I can't by ZAR stain in my are any more so i have to pick a different brand. 

According to ZAR their stain is a mix of oil and latex, so i can't figure out whether i should go with oil base or latex base stain. Can i still use semi-transparent stain or i must go with solid.  Would i have to strip down original stain in all cases or there is a way to cheat out it.

Any suggestions are appropriated.

No matter what you have to remove the ZAR fist by stripping and or sanding. Once down to the bare wood, you can use any semi-transparent that you like:
