Hey guys,
I made the rookie mistake of not reading directions! I applied multiple coats of way too much transparent deck stain without wiping away excess with a cloth as I went. It now has a glossy "wet" look and sticky/tacky finish. There are some blotchy areas that I would imagine could be scraped up with the proper chemical/tool of some sort. My goal is obviously to have a uniform natural look that the stain was meant to have. I've read that mineral spirits and steel wool is recommended. Do I mix the mineral spirits with anything? Any advice would be much appreciated!
I am not sure you can fix this by wiping it down with mineral spirits as it is extremely over applied. Steel wool will not work.
What brand of stain is this? You may need to remove all and start over. Strip what you can and then sand the rest off.
