I will be putting down the decking this weekend. Deck is in NJ, gets sun all day.

I was thinking of giving the deck 4-6 weeks to dry and then applying the first coat of stain. Make sense?

Which stain would you recommend? I was leaning towards the Defy Extreme or TWP 1500. I'd like to be able to put future coats on without stripping the old coats. Do you need to strip either of these for future year's coats?

Lastly, does it make more senes to use Timber Oil for the initial coat on the new wood and then switch to Defy or TWP for future year's coats? Are both the Defy and TWP compatible with the Timber Oil?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, I would use TimberOil for the first coat hen switch to TWP 1500 if desired. They are both oil based stains. Make sure to clean and prep the wood after the 4-5 weeks.
