Deck Stain Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
I just built a new pine deck. It is 3 weeks in place, and gets mostly full sun and partial shade part of the day.
Knowing next to nothing about treatment of a deck, my questions are:
How long to wait until I can start staining the deck?
Do I need a cleaner/brightener?
And of course; what brand of stain do you recommend? (I'd prefer a "greener" stain, unless an oil based stain offers significant advantages)
