You can stain over this. We would use a solid stain for the trim board.

@administrator Hello, I didn't realize you had an article of recommended solid stains linked here to your answer.  I did already buy a qrt of PPG Ultra Creme. Should I try to return it and go with Defy?

@franz Defy is much better for sure.

Hello, What would we notice as a difference between the two stains?  It seems after much searching that I could only get it ordered in the needed custom tinted color, if I purchase the 5 gallon option.  I do not see a tintable gallon option anywhere. Am I missing it?

Thank you so much

It is just a trim board (mostly vertical wood) so it probably does not matter that much what you use.

Just noticing this trim.  We actually have 'rough-cut' cedar trim boards and they are used all around the exterior of the house.  So to maintain the deck trim that is stripped, plus re-coat the peeling spots/knots around the rest of the exterior, we would like to see about getting the Defy in a custom cream, but not in a 5 gallon portion.  Do you know of a place who will tint (have name & sample of PPG color in can) a gallon of Defy?

@administrator Help!!  This cedar deck is 3 years old and i've had to strip and brighten it 2 years in a row after using highly recommended SW products. Last one was Superdeck. It faded and flaked off quickly in traffic and full sun areas. I've maintained decks for a lifetime and i don't want to have to do a hard strip ever again. I planned to use Penofin Red Label Oil Sealer and know it will gray but i'm now reading about blackening? Can you make a recommendation on a product that won't film build?

@edwhit Post pics for prep advice. Once done, use TWP 1500 Serie or Armstrong Clark Stains. Both are much better than Penofin and SW deck stains.

Couldn't find a help area to post this.

I am new and having trouble posting a question to the 'Best Wood Stains for a Log Cabin' article.

A banner pops up saying my email is invalid? I used the same email to register.

Please advise!

Not sure what you mean. Can you take a screenshot of the error message and post it here?

I am going to restain this cedar deck in New Jersey. Has Defy extreme Semi-transparent on it. I sanded to remove scuffs and dog scratches, etc. I also used a deck cleaner (before sanding). Planning to use same stain.

Am I right to be concerned that the stain will not absorb evenly into the deck? If so, what are my best options. Tia.

@billybgood Yes, it will be uneven at this point. You should remove the Defy fully now to get it even. Strip and Brighten.
