I have a cedar deck and railing system that was built in the fall of 2013. I was going to use Cabot's Timber Oil to finish it in the spring of 2015, but I ended up using Olympic Maximum Toner which has stain and sealant in one. I can't remember why I used the Olympic instead of the Cabot's, but something I read about it made me think that the Cabot's might not be the best product for the cedar.

I finished the deck last May. Over the course of the past year, the stain has worn off not only in the places where there is heavy foot traffic (I do have a dog as well), but also on many of the railings. I made sure there was clear, dry weather for at least 3 days leading up to the day that I did the staining, and there were at least 2 days of dry weather afterward.

I'm wondering if I didn't use the right product, or if something else may be going on?

I'd be happy for any feedback that might help, as well as recommendations as to what I should do now. I'd rather not have to sand down the whole deck and railing (it's about 450 square feet, and it has a pre-fabricated cedar railing system).

I've attached some images in case that's helpful.

You need to remove the Cabot first. Use the Restore A Deck products for stripping and brightening. After the prep try a TWP stain.

Someone mentioned something to me about "mill glaze"... if that's what it's called... is that something that I need to be concerned about?
