We live in Kentucky.
Our deck gets sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon.
Pressure Treated Wood.
Our new deck was built last year in October. We waited one month then applied Woodrich brand Timber Oil in the color brown sugar. I love the color, by the way, and the deck looks great. We did Timber Oil b/c we had wanted to stain the deck before winter and didn't have much time since our deck was built so late in the season.
I knew we'd have to apply something different this year, so I am looking for advice. We want to do this right. Honestly, the Timber Oil doesn't do much to protect the deck. There isn't really any beading of water during rain. We need something to protect against sun and water damage. We love the nature wood showing through.
Thank you in advance for any help you're able to provide!
Beading water is a myth with a deck stain and no high quality products will do this as you want the wood stain to breathe. Shedding is normal. Either stay with another coat of the TO or switch to TWP. Pecan is close to Brown Sugar.
Thank you for the advice! So if we do another coat of the TO (since we do have enough left over from last year to do another coat this year) that means we'll have to do TWP next year, right? And we can just go right over the TO next year without stripping or anything? Thanks again!!
You can clean deeply and or strip. Either way the TO will come off easily for applying the TWP.
