The only thing that seems to help reduce heat are lighter colored semi-transparent stains.
Your prep for the solid stain is good to go.
Nothing can really work on top of these products. Best to remove all 100% and then you can use whatever type you want.
Lightly wash with a pressure washer, apply the brightener, rinse after 20 minutes and you should be good to stain.
