I need to remove Thompson's WaterSeal Stain from my deck that was applied incorrectly approx 2 years ago. We have pressure washed and I was planning to apply Behr Premium or Rustoleum Restore but have seen terrible reviews about them. What product should I use to remove the Water Seal stain that's still on it. From what I read, I will need to brighten it after stripping it. I am looking at other options currently but need to get this terrible stain off the pine treated deck. What's your suggestions?

Use the Restore A Deck stain Stripper and pressure wash off. Neutralize with the Restore A deck Wood Brightener.

Love this website! So helpful! My deck question has morphed over the last week from basic brand inquiry to this: How can I tell if a clear sealer was applied to our new deck? Bought home in March, have been letting new compressed pine deck season before I clean/brighten/stain. Now, big surprise to me, I just found 1/2 can of leftover Thompson's water seal in the shed. Deck is def more grey after 5 months of weather, water beads in some areas but soaks in other spots. Also, I goofed and used Elmer's wood filler in several places. The jar said it would accept stain but you guys say not. Help!

The Elmers will stay white under the deck stain. It accepts an interior wood stain like minwax. You could try the find a minwax color that would blend with the deck stain color you choose and carefully touch up the wood filler first. Never tried it, but should work. As for the sealer, best to strip and brighten to be safe. Use Restore A Deck Stripping kits and pressure washing for the prep.
