We have a cabin built in 1928 with standing grain fir floors that were recently refinished and look great. There are two screen porches that were added later but probably within 30 years of the original. Both have the same wood flooring. One appears to have the original stain and then was covered with turf carpeting. The other was painted over original stain then carpeted with turf. We would like to refinish them to look like the interior. Both porches have approx 3' high walls except for screen doors and full roofs. The main porch facing the lake faces east, so it will get occasional mist through the screens from rain in a driving wind.

Our flooring company is hesitant to refinish the floors and has said they will not warrant any work done. They suggested Arborcoat as they have used it once for another customer and have not heard that they have had problems. I believe they are proposing a stain and finish coat similar to the interior floors.

I'm not sure about the Arborcoat from the reviews, though it sounds like they can custom mix the color to get the best match possible. Should they just be stained with more of a deck stain (ie TWP 100)? Can those be mixed for custom colors? Is it just a matter of reapplying every so often?

Thanks.

You cannot custom mix TWP not can you topcoat it like a hardwood floor as it will peel. Best to use a penetrating stain like the TWP.
