I read your recommendation of waiting 3+ months before staining new wood.

It seems that all the "experts" around here have varying opinions on the time, 3-WEEKS +.

In south Texas, treated lumber twists and cracks if not protected from the summer sun.

I'm going to follow your recommendation of one of the top oil-based six stains that you recommend.  If I can find them.

In the heat and full sun of South Texas will it be the right time to apply an oil-based stain,?  I read somewhere that you should avoid a situation where the oil or carrier medium might evaporate off too quickly, preventing penetration.

The deck has been in 6-weeks with a couple of the flooring boards showing small splits on the ends, and vertical cracks in two of the 4x4 posts.

Thanks for the web site, I was heading to HD to buy probably Thomson oil based deck stain.

Do not use any products from HD and they also do not carry any penetrating oil-based stains.

You can apply in the Summer but be careful:  https://www.deckstainhelp.com/applying-a-deck-stain-in-full-sun/

Thanks for the information.

What about staining it at night?  <<

Then covering the whole deck for as long as it takes to cure?  I have some large cow shades.

My deck is beside a very large oak tree that provides a shadow over the deck until 11-12noon, then the house shades it about 3 pm.  At noon the unprotected deck should be around 120+.

I am very surprised at the details of staining the deck right.  The builder had Behr latex "stain" ready to put on before I questioned him about the penetration of the product.

I would do cover it and or do it at night. The sun actually helps it cure after you are done applying. Ths issues with the sun are only when applying or shortly thereafter, not later on.
