I have a 80-90 sq foot balcony. I needed to restain it. I stained it and then i did a second coat. The balcony now has a greasy look to it and is sticky. It has been a week. I read stuff about using a moist cloth to wipe off the "oil" but it is just pulling up the stain. I guess I don't understand. I have pics I took. Any help will be appreciated. the deck was washed and stripped before i did this. Thanks
OK, WOW!!! thanks for posting. I was so close to buying this stuff. I tell you, I have read so many forums and so many reviews, I think my head will explode. Nothing works! Is it really that impossible? It must be!!! Enough BS already, I'm going vinyl!
I saw TWP 2000 and wondered what the difference was between it and the 1500.So I came back to look and found your post.
All I want is a decent product and I'll pay for it, no worries, is that too much to ask?
I'm sure these guys are straight up, at least they sure seam to be, not sure what could have gone wrong with your deck but it put the breaks on my project, BIG TIME!. My deck is 14x60 and I sure as H don't need a mess
Very sorry your deck looks like crap!! Good luck mate!
This is not the TWP's fault but rather a combination of not prepping completely and over applying. TWP is a penetrating stain and it is obvious that it was unable to penetrate due to reasons mentioned above.
You said that you stripped the deck? There seems to be a a decent amount of old stain below the TWP that did not come off. Almost like there is a dark rectangle of old stain. The outer edges look much lighter in color.
From the picture I am pretty sure this is a preparation error. Cannot blame the product for this. At this point it would be best to wipe off the excess stain with mineral spirits so that it dries.
Sorry you had issues but improper prepping or over applying is the number one reason any deck stain will fail.
I m not balming the stain...trying to figure out what went wront. Used stain stripper from home depot...th excess stain was actually around the edges because of where grill used to be. So now where do I get mineral salts? Do I fill a bucket of water and use a cloth and scrub?
Sorry, I know you were not blaming the stain but I was also replying to the other poster. Not mineral salts but mineral spirits or paint thinner. Make sure to dispose of rags properly. Do not leave in hot sun or garage!
