I live in upstate New York and the deck is in full sun. It has posts and a pergola. I just bought TWP1500 for the floor portion and have or will strip off to bare wood to start over. With the pergola two things. It's really unpractical to strip it completely though i did strip a lot. It has damage from woodpeckers. I'd like to fill the holes with a tintable filler but I think I will need to switch to semi solid stain to cover the bad area's. so the question is am I right and what is the best and how do I pretreat?

Wood filler will not work on outside wood and will not tint to blend with a semi-transparent deck stain. You may want to go with a solid stain.

Ok I just decided to replace all the damage on the posts. What is the best product to let me stain over not completely stripped wood on the high pieces
