Hello, I've done a little research and i'm not coming up with much help regarding staining over the top of sun faded siding.

I'm purchasing this house and saw the level of fading on the shop and i was very sad to see that it was never properly finished, i hope its not too late.

What I would like to do is match the shop color to the house, however as you can see, the side of the shop is faded at the bottom and not bad looking the rest of the way up, the front of the shop is super faded, and the back of the shop is all moldy due to the trees covering it (time to make some fire wood).

So this is the procedure i "think" i will follow?
I read one of the best ways to clean the wood is with 1/2 cup oxi-clean to 1 gallon of water plus 1 tablespoon of Basic H in hot water. Then spray it onto the siding and hit it with a brush, then use a wide nozzle power washer to rinse it all off, wait a few days for it to dry, then apply the stain.

My question is, what stain will help me cover the half sun-faded siding? I was thinking a semi-solid penetrating oil. I want it to look uniform without having to A) use paint. B) replace the sun faded boards C) remove all the boards, sand them down, stain them, then put them back up.

Here are some pictures to show you what i'm dealing with.

Best way to prep is with a Restore A Deck Cleaning kit and a pressure washer. Much more effective than your homemade recipe. Plus the kit includes a wood brightener. They graying will come off but the one issue that will not come off all the way is the water stain. This is just above the graying on the sides. The brightener will help with the water stains though.

As for stain and color, look at Armstrong Clark in Amber color or TWP 1515 Honeytone. Should be similar to the house.
