My deck is in NY. It gets partial sun. It is about 5 years old and is pressure treated pine. When I last stained it I used Cabot oil based semi transparent in cordovan brown (6337 on the can). I love the color, but don't want to use the new cabot low voc formula. So, I need a replacement product that is similar in color and is of high quality (I.e, will perform like an oil based product). Both requirements are very important to me.

Sorry but I have no idea as to what would match the Cordovan Brown color. As for oil based stains, try TWP 1500 or Armstrong Clark.

Has all cabot oil based changed to the new formula? I planned to use cabot semi solid oil based to cover flood cedar tone. Or the solid if the test spots didnt cover. Deck is too large ro strip with ease.

This depends on where you live but for the most part, it does not seem to be the same as it was back in the day. either way in your scenario you have to strip. You cannot add any stain on top of the Flood and expect it to perform as advertised.

Thank you for the information. Will save me some headache. How long do i wait on a water test? I pulled a spindle in the best shape so i can test solutions before i fully commit. Awesome site by the way.

Water test? You mean as in absorption for stain to penetrate? If water soaks in within seconds then you stain will work. If it beads then your stain will not absorb well.
