I recently added on to the older deck and would like to know what stain would work best since it will be used on new pressure treater pine and 5 year old boards that have been, pressure washed, brightezned and lightly sanded. This area of the house stays shady and damp so mildew/algae are big concerns.

Where do you live and when was the new wood installed?

Wait another 2 months, prep the new wood with a deck cleaner, stain all wood with a semi-solid color to give the best overall blend between the wood. Armstrong Clark Stains are what we use.

Thanks for your input. This site has been a huge help. Before your response I had been looking into Defy mainly because of its mildew/algae tolerance. What is your opinion for this brand for my project?

Yes Defy offers the best mold resistance. Negative it that it will not blend the new and old wood as well since it is more transparent then a semi-solid. If you are okay with the slight difference between wood then go with the Defy.
