You should remove the current coating first.

1. State you live in - Alabama coast
2. Full Shade, Partial Shade, or Full Sun - Partial shade
3. Type of Wood - pressure-treated
4. Mold or Mildew Issues - No
5. Main Issues with Previous Stains - previous owner applied paint or solid stain on large deck around a pool. Plan to apply another solid stain such as Restore a Deck however we are concerned about how slick this will become around a pool, how hot these products get when in direct sun and how much durability these stains have around a pool. Honestly, my my concern is how slippery a solid stain will become when wet so no one falls. Any solid stains that are better for antislip or is there a way to make an existing stain less slick? Or is this not as much of a problem with solid stains as I think it will be.

Solid color deck stains are typically not slippery.

Wait about three months and then clean and brighten the wood. Try Black Walnut in TWP 1500 Series or Armstrong Clark in Black Walnut.

Two-tiered deck of different ages, finishes in Ontario, Canada.

Top tier is at least 10yrs old and was stained by previous owners (I'm unsure of what was used).  Bottom tier was new PT added by us 6 summers ago and has been left completely untreated.  All is looking pretty bad.  Ideally, planning to clean and stain everything new & old the same colour.

Back of the house faces south so most of the lower deck gets beat by the sun all day - no shade.  Only shade is under gazebo when it's up.

Planning to use RAD Cleaner/Brightener on unfinished wood.  Hoping that the RAD Stripper (maybe with thickening gel and booster), hoping it will remove the stain.  Can you tell by the pictures if the RAD stripper would work?  Do you think I'll be able to remove enough of the existing stain so that I don't have to use this colour for new new stain?

For vertical boards should I apply stripper with garden pump sprayer then pressure wash off?  Or apply with sprayer then scrub with deck brush before pressure washer?

For horizontal boards should I apply cleaner and let sit, then pressure wash off, or will it need to be scrubbed first?

I've seen all kinds of great advice here on this site - hoping to get a little guidance for my project so I can get rolling.  It's going to be a big job.

Thanks in advance!

You should be able to strip or remove most of the old stain using the RAD and both additives.. You do not need to scrub after applying cleaner or stripper, just pressure wash. Brighten all after.

Thank-you.  I have about 570sq ft of horizontal boards, 325sq ft of vertical stained and about the same amount of vertical unstained.  Do you think I'm covered with 1 kit RAD Clean/Bright, 1 kit RAD Strip/Bright, 1 bottle each of thickening gel & booster?

Also, when applying the cleaner/stripper, should I remove or cover the gazebo frame?  I believe it's powder coated steel.  Will RAD products harm it?

Amounts should be okay. The metal should be okay.

Awesome!  Thanks.  Vinyl siding OK as well?

I'm in Canada and wanted to use the TWP Semi-Solid Stain Pro-Series, but it cannot be shipped to Canada because of VOC.  Given the varying ages and finishes of my deck, do you think the RAD semi-transparent stains will be a good second choice?  Obviously, I'll strip/clean/brighten properly.

As you can see in the pics, we have a pool.  It's chlorine.  Do the RAD stains hold up any better or worse to chlorine than other stain options?  Suggestions?

No deck stain can hold up to chlorine/bleach. They will all be damaged eventually from excess water.

Thanks for answer on chlorine.  It's what I expected to hear.  Any feedback on this previous post quoted above?

And to add-on to it, would 10gal of RAD semi-transparent stain be sufficient?

The RAD stain would work well. As for the amount of stain, best to measure all wood and add up the square footage. Then check with RAD to see the amount needed.
