[Sticky] Deck Staining Help

You cannot strip off a solid stain. No need if you are recoating with another solid stain. Both RAD and Flood make good solid stains so up to you as to which product to use for this IPE.

So what type of prep is needed prior to re-staining with a solid stain?

Just pressure wash? Any cleaner or neutralizer?

Will this prep remove the Miracle Grow stains?

Pressure wash to remove the peeling stain. No idea on Miracle Grow.

I'm looking for a deck stain for my 8 year old cedar deck in southern Maine. I previously used One Time on it and it didn't hold up well. It cracked/peeled and had moldy areas. It's a large deck some parts don't get much direct sun and other parts do. I've applied a bleach solution to it and pressure washed it, 95% of it is down to bare wood.  The knots are retaining the previous One Time stain.  

Prep with the REstore A Deck stripper and then the RAD Brightener. Stain with Armstrong Clark or TWP 1500 Series.

How about the RAD semitransparent stain?  I kept researching and thought that looked like a good option for ease of application/clean-up.

Hello, Looking to recoat my fence.

Originally stained 3 years ago with Olympic Elite Woodland Oil Mahogany on Pressure Treated Wood. 

Location - Central PA

Full Sun

Current Condition - Color looks good, however sealing properties are not there anymore.

I was looking to just recoat on top of it since I have no desire to change tone and Im happy with Olympic Woodland Oil.

What is the best method to prepare the wood to receive the coating? Do I need to wash it? And if so with what? Bleach? Sodium Percarbonate? Oxalic acid? (I have both Sodium Percarbonate and Oxalic acid from refinishing my deck in the spring). (I have concerns on bleach being detrimental hence I have Sodium Percarbonate and Oxalic Acid as brightener and pH neutralizer)

Should I just wash it with a low concentration so it doesn't strip any stain?

Yes wash at low pressure with the sodium percarbonate.

Followed by the oxalic acid or no need?

Btw, for future reference, for a Pressure Treated Pine deck, is Penofin Stain good? I like their natural look tints and it seems they have a formulated tint just for Pressure Treated and I like that is brazilian rosewood oil as well. Is penofin good on stains where you can just reapply maintenance coats on top without stripping and such? I would hate to put something where it would form a film.

A company cleaned, brightened and power washed our deck floor and railings.  After it was dry they came back sanded and sprayed Defy Extreme Natural Pine.  They did the floor in a hurry because the weather looked like it was going to rain, which it did 1/2 hr after they left.  The floor is much lighter than the railings and the company rep agreed it needed another coat.  They plan to come back in a week and spray another coat on.  My question is, will that work or does it need to be sanded before another coat is put on.  Defy directions say apply a 2nd coat before the 1st coat dries.  What will happen to the deck having another coat sprayed on a week later?

Needs to be removed or sanded first.
